Lead- To guide by influence
Manage- To control the movement or behavior
To Effectively Lead and Manage you must master these skills. As a Manager of a business and people, I view my position as a privilege to guide by influence and to control movement and behavior. What an opportunity! Yes the days get busy and at times very long, but in the end I could think of nothing I would rather do professionally.
Ask any Manager and they will tell you, "of course there are always challenges and frustrations, and at times I wonder what to do next, and where to start." We all want to do our best, but the reality is many Managers only operate off past experiences and routines. Rare is the manager that actually stops to consider how to "guide by influence" or how "to control movement or behavior". Many employees have little confidence, that the ones who lead have the skills to perform the task needed. They also feel that they are rarely considered as valuable.
To lead is to know, guide, and control movement. Nothing about that is maintaining the status quo. If you are seeking guidance for your managers or even yourself, I would highly recommend Sandler Training. Dan and Lisa Nausley are Career Coaches. They have the skills to teach those who lead, how to be their best. I can honestly say they guide by influence, and have helped our organization control movement and behavior.
Dan and Lisa Nausley- Leadership and Management Defined.
