Productivity Psychologist, Melissa Gratias

Were you in President’s Club on June 2nd?  Sorry you missed it if you weren’t.  It was a great session on rewriting scripted beliefs.  So often, we are our own worst enemies.  We undervalue our successes and dwell on our shortcomings.  We become “negativity magnets” and are drawn toward situations that validate these perceptions.  How do we overcome this tendency and enhance our likelihood of success?

One way to change our beliefs about ourselves is through the use of affirmations.  Affirmations are encouraging, present tense, and personal statements that help us get past head trash.  Consistent use of affirmations will attract these positive things to our lives and work.

Some examples of positive affirmations are:

  • I am flexible and creative in times of change and uncertainty.
  • I am open and receptive to new avenues of income.
  • I am an amazing listener, totally engaged in what the other person is saying.

But how do you get in the habit of repeating the stinkin’ things???

In President’s Club, we discussed several tactics you can use to keep your affirmations front and center.  They were:

  • Add “Repeat Affirmations” to your daily to-do list
  • Post index cards with your affirmations written on them in prominent locations in your home and/or office
  • Add your affirmations to your calendar

Chris Coleman from Dale’s Heating and Air asked about affirmation apps.  There are a few options in the App Store that will deliver daily affirmations to your phone, but they are not your affirmations – they are positive statements written by others.  However, it is possible to send yourself recurring text messages with your personalized affirmations.

For iPhone, try TextMinder https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/textminder-sms-text-reminders/id303749251?mt=8

For Android, check out SMS Scheduler https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lylynx.smsscheduler

Chris, I hope these are helpful to you.

Remember that the power of affirmations is best harnessed with regular use.  Say your affirmations aloud and with conviction.  The laws of attraction dictate that you will draw these positive things to you.

Now, repeat after me…
